Bright and Sunny Formal Living Room
A key requirement in creating this elegant living room was to bring in the views of the client's beautiful pool and outdoor living space while providing effective control of the massive amounts of sunlight that shines through the large windows and french doors. To accomplish this I designed custom silk draperies and a custom rod to allow them to be as functional as they are beautiful.
Office with a view
I designed custom window treatments to accent the fine architectural details in this home office's windows and to frame the gorgeous view of the golf course in this Chapel Hill home's back yard. The desk was situated to take advantage of those views to provide a calming, peaceful work space for this client.
Artful Living Room
The owners of this Chapel Hill home wanted to create a living space to compliment their original artwork and capture the beauty of the golf course just outside their windows. We accomplished this through custom designer window treatments, careful color selections and furniture placement.
Sleek Fuquay Kitchen
The owners love the clean lines and modern lighting of this kitchen. The crisp white cabinetry was complemented by the sleek glass block tile of the backsplash and the warm colors of the granite countertops. The decor in this room was kept simple and clean and selected to provide bursts of color to the space. All of this is highlighted by under-cabinet LED lighting, which not only provides accent and task lighting, but is also green by virtue of its ultra-low power consumption and minimal heat generation.
Casual Family Room Elegance
The design for this room started with the rug, which provided an anchor for the custom designed sectional sofa with extra pillows. The fabrics and accessories were chosen with clean, simple elegance in mind to reflect the casual yet stylish personality of the adjacent kitchen. The custom designed window treatments were created with eye toward highlighting the lovely french doors. With entertaining outdoors a priority for this client, the drapery panels were designed to give easy access to and from the outdoor space. One of the challenges of this project was to created a sense of flow to what appears as one large space but with three very different purposes. What connects the spaces is the use of color palette and a classic but modern design .
Warm Inviting Family Room
This Raleigh Client had enlisted the design assistance of our firm for many of her homes. The home featured here was custom built about 10 years ago with our firm's guidance. With her daughter's wedding approaching the client wanted to refresh the fabrics and upholstery to enhance the timeless design details already in place. To play up the dramatic architectural focal point of the fireplace , we selected symmetrical window treatments. The details create balance within the space bringing harmony and order. As interiors change over time , a great sofa with an interesting silhouette has staying power. The custom made sofa from 10 years ago was easily updated with new fabric and pillows for a fresh look.
Cozy Casual Dining
Located directly across from the warm, inviting Family room is the light filled , cheery breakfast nook. The space was refreshed by replacing the window treatments with bold colored, box pleated valances.Scale and design of the window treatments was needed to soften the space but not cut out too much light from the door or windows. Seat cushions on the kitchen chairs were recovered in a coordinating fabric. The fabric is an outdoor fabric which lends itself to be not only very durable but also stain resistant . The rug , dining table and chairs were part of the original design of the space selected by the designer.
Elegant Master Retreat
The client requested to keep key pieces created in the original design from the new construction like the chair and ottoman ,shutters, small rug and armoire. We freshened up the space with new paint, carpet , bed and window treatments. Requests from the client included it to be minimal, uncluttered with a quiet simplicity. We chose to stay with a simple palette of blues, taupes, grays and yellows. The overall look evolved into soft and opulent but in a casual way.The bed is adorned in ceiling to floor panels with a cornice that matches fabric used on the drapery panels at the windows. Stationary side panels on a lovely gold decorative rod soften the plantation shutters on the windows. Custom bedding in various shades of taupes, grays and blue connect the various elements in the room in a cohesive way.
Spacious Great Room
This Apex great room certainly is a grand space. At 20x36 with 20 foot ceilings, scale of the furnsihings and accouterments was vital to keeping them from being swallowed by the room. The rug and color scheme of the room was inspired by the cherry stained built-ins and floor inlays and the furniture and fabrics were chosen with simplicity, subtlety and elegance in mind. This room was featured in the April 11, 2014 issue of the News & Observer. Casual Sitting Area
The client wanted to take advantage of the area off the kitchen to provide a quiet space for reading while taking in the views of the golf course and mature trees outside of the large windows. I provided assistance in selecting the rug and custom upholstery to really make this nook the perfect location to relax for a while.
Full Kitchen Remodel
This kitchen was a complete full gut remodel. In order to maximize the space available for cabinets, I had my contractor remove a little used door to free up additional wall space. After that we completely brought this space back to life with the installation of beautiful new flooring, cabinetry, lighting, window treatments and a custom banquette to fully utilize the existing footprint of the space.
Mordecai House and Museum
The refurbishing of the parlor was done in collaboration with Interior Design Society, Capital Area Preservation and The City of Raleigh. Working with another designer on the parlor, extensive research was done not only on the history of the Mordecai House itself but the dates of the parlor in particular. We studied what types of fabrics were used at the time as well as designs for the window treatments. Many of the fabrics on the upholstery were from Europe including a horse hair fabric used on one of the chairs and French Tapestry fabric for the piano bench. Great care was taken to mimic design styles of the era. Our drapery workroom hand sewed many of the details on the velvet window treatments. The metal cornices on the top of the treatments are thought to be original to the room. A docent in the house found the cornices in the cellar. We were able to carefully clean and install them in the parlor. The results of the historic parlor were awe-inspiring and a phenomenal experience.
Office Building Lobby
This client wanted to update a tired & dated office space to make it more inviting for clients to be greeted as they come to their office. I assisted with paint colors and carpet selection and also provided all the custom upholstery, accessories and wood pieces.
